August 8 is the feast day of St. Dominic, the founder of the Dominican Order and the patron saint of DIS. A paraliturgy was held with His Excellency, Most Rev. Fr. John Hung, SVD, Archbishop of Taipei as the main celebrant. He was assisted by Fr. Arturo Morales, CMF of Wulai, sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima.
Sr. Ma. Asunción González, OP, General Prioress of the Religious Missionaries of St. Dominic who traveled from Rome, Italy and Fr. Giuseppe ‘Silvestrini, attaché of the Apostolic Nunciature witnessed the occasion with several invited Dominican sisters and Religious priests.
Sr. Ma. Zenaida T. Ancheta, OP, the directress/principal warmly welcomed the visitors, parents and students. She led the presentation of the pillars in front that represent the four pillars and core values of DIS. Each pillar was presented by the school's administrators and staff together with the Young St. Dominic, Gian Adrian Crisostomo, from the lower school department. The Four pillars are study, prayer, community and service. Mr. Joe Schoeman and Sr. Zenaida Ancheta, OP presented the Study pillar which means Dominicans are lovers of truth. Sr. Ma. Socorro Teofilo, OP and Sr. Evelyn Quidoles, OP presented the Prayer pillar which means Dominicans are Reflective. Sr. Leticia Delfin, OP and Mr. Tank Tien presented the Community pillar that means Dominicans are community-oriented, courageous and organized. Ms. Venter Petro and Ms. Agosh Librea presented the Service pillar that means Dominicans are helpful.
The event was also highlighted with the pulling of ribbon to officially open the new facilities of DIS Taipei. Each ribbon was reprented by the stakeholders of DIS namely, Sr. Ma. Asunción González, OP, General Prioress of the Religious Missionaries of St. Dominic, His Excellency, Most Rev. Fr. John Hung, SVD Archbishop of Taipei, Fr. Giuseppe Silvestrini Attaché of the Apostolic Nunciature, Sr. Cecilia Hsu, OP, Provincial Prioress of the Religious Missionaries of St. Dominic, Sr. Ma. Zenaida Ancheta, OP, Principal of DIS Taipei, Sr. Margarita Lin, O.P. representative of Sisters of Dazhi Community, Mr. Jimmy Chu, representative of DIS faculty & staff, Ms. Yvonne Hsu, representative of DIS parents & alumni, Mr. Hiro Fu, Student Council president, Mr. Daniel Huang, architect, Mr. Xue Ren Chien, chairperson of the Fu-Chu Construction Company and Mr. Yong Zai Kuo, assistant vice president of the Taiwan Power (Tai Dong) Company.
Bishop John Hung, SVD blessed the students and the main entrance lobby. Fr. Andrew Wojcik, OP and Fr. Franco Lacanaria blessed the Gymnasium building. Fr. Liju Kuriath, CMF, Fr. Giuseppe ‘Silvestrini, attaché of the Apostolic Nunciature and Fr. Joshy Chirayilparampil, CMF, blessed the Sisters Convent.
Mr. Rodolfo Lacayo, Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Nicaragua and Mr. Marcial Bobadilla Guillen, Ambassador of the Republic of Paraguay attended the event.
Although, it was a sunny weather, it did not dampen the spirit of the parents, students and guests. An entertainment from D' Torch choir ended the event.
