Anthony Wu treated the DIS administration, teachers, and staff to a piano recital last May 22, 2018. It was held in the DIS gymnasium. Although it was for free, only six years old and above are welcome to witness the said event. A pre-order form was sent through e-mail to the DIS Sisters, teachers, staff and students to determine the number of invitation needed. Anthony would like to perform in front of the DIS community to share his talent in playing the piano since it is his senior year in DIS. Also, it is way for Anthony to thank the administration, teachers, and staff for helping him throughout his stay in DIS.
Anthony has won numerous competitions the latest was 4th Prize in the 2017 New Arts international Piano Competition. His other achievements were First Prize - 2016 Japan Hamamatsu International Piano Competition, First Prize - 2016 National Taiwan Piano Competition, 2nd Prize - 2014 Japan International Classical Music Competition, and Finalist – 2016 Steinway and Son International Piano Competition. In the year 2013, 2015, and 2016 he got the first prize in NTDTV Taiwan Piano Competition.
The event started at exactly 4:30 PM with Andre Hirakawa doing the hosting. The first part of the event, Anthony played J. S. Bach: Italian Concerto in F major BWV 971t. Mvt. 1. L.van Betthoven: “Moonlight” Sonata Op. 27 No. 2, and F. Chopin: Andante Spianato Et Grande Polonaise Brillante Op. 22.
Hiro Fu, also a senior student, performed a cello intermission number, J. S. Bach: Cello Suite No.1 v Menuet.
On the second part, Anthony was supposed to play his last piece F. Liszt: “Tarantella” from Venezia e Napoli but one of the piano keys broke up. But this did not dampen the spirit of the audience for they were truly amazed and overwhelmed with the way Anthony played the piano.
Being a piano enthusiast Sr. Ma. Zenaida T. Ancheta, OP said “Anthony’s performance is really an inspiring one.”
“We will truly miss Anthony, we are very proud of him.” she added.
