1957 was the year DIS was founded. It has been sixty-three years of providing quality and gospel-centered education to different races in Taipei. It was a pandemic year for most countries; however, 2020 was indeed a remarkable year for the school because it was able to celebrate its 63rd foundation anniversary. The theme was “Stron63r Together” (with 63 instead of GE). Though, it was the presidential campaign slogan of Hillary Clinton back in 2016, but in DIS as a family, we grow stronger as we spend time together.
The celebration was simple but memorable for it had games by house color. The games were held on day 1, December 7, 2020. The entire community had to wear their house shirt and jeans. Amazing race and scavenger hunt were played with one-minute games like junk in the trunk, defying gravity, stack attack, yank me, movin’ on up, and tilt a cup. The one-minute games had a specific game station located in the gymnasium.
Additional games for the lower school students were hopscotch while for middle and high school students was a 3-point shoot-out. Due to limited game venues, the house was divided into two groups based on their levels. For the lower school department, the two groups were, 1st group – Pre-Kindergarten to Grade two, and 2nd group – Grade three to Grade five. For the middle and high school, 1st group – middle school, and 2nd group – high school. Each student of each house was assigned a game station to play. The students of the five houses, Truthful scarlet, Organized emerald, Reflective Sapphire, Courageous Gold, and Helpful Carnelian took turns in playing in each of the game stations.
Some parents were able to help during the lower school games. The games ended with a five-way tug-of-war.
A mass in honor of the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary was celebrated on day 2 (December 8, 2020). It also marked the foundation day anniversary. Due to pandemic restrictions, there were two masses celebrated, 1st mass for the lower school students and teachers and 2nd mass for the middle and high school students and teachers. Both masses were held at the gymnasium.
Fr. Tomasz Zalewski, OP the school chaplain officiated both masses. The Volunteer Involved Parents (VIP) donated and presented the cake to the sisters and the community. On behalf of the community, Sr. Ma. Zenaida T. Ancheta, OP, directress/principal thanked them for their kindness.
