Global Citizenship Award 2023


Dominican International School is a member of the East Asia Regional Council of Schools (EARCOS). Each school member is allowed to select among its students the school’s recipient of the Global Citizenship Award (GCA). The Global Citizenship Award is presented to a student who embraces the qualities of a global citizen. This student is a proud representative of his/her nation while respectful of the diversity of other nations, have an open mind, is well informed, aware and empathetic, concerned and caring for others, encourages a sense of community, and is strongly committed to engagement and action to make the world a better place.


Moreover, this student is able to interact and communicate effectively with people from all walks of life while having a sense of collective responsibility for all who inhabit the globe.


The Criteria

The criteria for selecting the recipient of GCA are as follows: 1. the student will be completing his/her penultimate year (the year before graduation, generally 11th grade); 2. Is conversant in at least two languages; 3. Understands the independence and interconnectedness of both human and ecological issues; 4. Demonstrates strong collaborative, problem-solving, listening, and consensus-building skills; 5. Strives to be well-informed on global issues; 5. Consistently demonstrates a sense of intrinsic voluntarism; 6. Exhibits extraordinary leadership skills; 7. Is committed to being an active participant in the coming year’s leadership responsibilities; and 8. Is in “good academic standing”.


The Recipient

Upon a thorough review of the recommended candidates by the faculty, Directress/Principal Sr. Ma. Zenaida T. Ancheta, OP chooses the recipient of this prestigious award. This year’s recipient is Yeseo “Rachel” Park. Rachel is a consistent honor student who ranks 2nd among her batch. Being the student moderator of the D’TORCH Orchestra, she plays the violin. D’TORCH Orchestra is the official DIS band that performs on special occasions, like foundation day, St. Dominic’s Day, and Easter Mass.

Student selections from EARCOS member schools are posted on the EARCOS web page. Selected students will and will be eligible to apply for one of six $500 EARCOS Community Services Grants.
