The D’TORCH Campus Radio conducts daily episodes every morning. It is a real-time episode that relates to a specific theme in which the DJs share what they have read and learned. The main purpose of these episodes is to entertain, educate, or inspire the DIS community. Since the DJs have been practicing these daily episodes, Campus Radio thought of having it broadcasted over the internet through a podcast. It is a dream of every D’TORCH Campus Radio DJ to have their episodes podcasted.
A podcast is a digital medium consisting of audio episodes that relate to a specific theme. It is a program made available in digital format for download over the internet. The hosts of a podcast are referred to as “podcasters”.
In its earliest form, it was called audio blogging. People would record their pieces and share the audio content over the internet, like auditory blog spots. In 2004, Ben Hammersly first used the term podcast to describe this content. The term was a combination of the words iPod and broadcast.
The current Club moderators were Ms. Agosh Librea, Mr. Kevin Henry, and Mr. Eric Williams. The podcasters were ably supported by the D’TORCH Campus Radio Team, namely Mr. Ian Crisostomo, MIT Head, Mr. Edward Solis, Campus Radio Broadcast Manager, and Mr. Arcel Joseph Amoguis, Script Editor.
The Campus Radio Student Moderators Jimmy Tsao, Daphne Yeh, and Keziah Borres have arranged, edited, and finalized several podcasts. They divided the podcasts into genres – school (DIS), entertainment, behavior, religions, and sports. The student moderators did the first-ever podcast of the D’TORCH Campus Radio. It opens up listeners to the world of Campus Radio, informing the basics of podcasting, the organization’s background, and what they could bring to their cherished audience.
Here are some of the podcasts created by the students.
Priscilla Chen, G10A, and Sophie Marie Luna Cardenas, G7T talked about “Fear”. They conversed about the basics of fear. You will be able to listen about the different types of fear, Its coping mechanisms, and their thoughts. They will offer pieces of advice that are easy for everyone to grasp.
G8A - Amber Lin’s episode is all about Japanese Manga. In Japanese, “manga” refers to all kinds of cartooning, comics, and animation. Among English speakers, “manga” has the stricter meaning of “Japanese comics”, in parallel to the usage of “anime” in and outside Japan. Amber explores Japanese comics and the series “Cased Closed”, a personal favorite. The intriguing plot of the widely-loved series is certainly one of a kind.
Abbish Chen & Sunny Violet Lin both from Grade Six interviewed Mr. B (Mr. Brian Simon). Mr. B is an EAL (English as an Additional Language) Teacher who was the lower school club moderator. They talked about the kid’s trends. The what-to-know trends. They talked about Roblox an online gaming platform and game creation system developed by Roblox Corporation last 2006. It allows users to program games and play games created by other users. Mr. B engages in the conversation from an adult’s perspective and brings up questions that students might have.
The school celebrates two important events every school year. The Masquerade Night, which happens every last Friday of October, and Spring Fair, every last Saturday of April. Mia Chen and Maria conversed about Masquerade Night. It is considered a special event by some of the students. Each year, the Volunteer Involved Parents (VIP) host this event with a theme that is attuned to the current trends. Both students gave a unique perspective as they delved into the aspects that make the event special for them.
For Spring Fair, Maria, Ian, and Abbish conversed with Mr. B. They asked each other, What’s Spring Fair like in DIS? What do the students think about it? The hosts had an adorable conversation alongside Mr. B. They narrated their opinions and exchanged ideas concerning the annual event. They had some heated debates but were able to resolve them among themselves.
