A meaningful breather for teachers and staff

Annual teachers and staff retreat

Holding the cup of life

The teachers and staff of DIS took a meaningful breather before embarking on the first day of school. Last August 9, 2024, they had their annual retreat held at Taiwan Catholic Regional Seminary, New Taipei City. This one-day event reminds the impact the participants have on the student's success in school and life. It provided important reflection time for educators to reconnect with the passion that drives their professional purpose. It helped educators identify the challenges in education and find new ways to overcome them.

Campus Ministry Head Sr. Rosa Dabhi CCV oriented the participants to focus and a have distraction-free atmosphere. She asked for the support of everyone to participate fully in the activities and conversations.

This year’s retreat master was Fr. Chrysostom Exaltacion, SJ, STD. Father Chrys is a member of the Society of Jesus. The Society of Jesus (SJ; Latin: Societas Iesu) is a religious order of the Catholic Church. It was founded by St. Ignatius of Loyola. He holds a degree in Doctor of Sacred Theology (S.T.D.). It is an academic degree conferred only after a candidate with a basic, tested theological orientation and proven competence in one area of specialization has shown ability for achievement in scholarly research and publication.

Below is the schedule of the retreat.

  •             08:15 - Departure from DIS

Father Chrys gave some insights about holding the cup of life. It means that looking critically at the lives we are living. Just living our lives is not enough. We have to process, reflect, contemplate, discuss, and form opinions about it. He facilitated the retreat to make the group step back from day-to-day activities for the given period. The participants had group dynamics and sharing.

The Campus Ministry team helped Father Chrys facilitate the event. Directress/Principal Sr. Jacqueline C. Manuel, OP made the progress of the event, from the school to the venue and back smooth and well organized. The event ended with Sr. Rosa handing a token of appreciation to Fr. Chrys. The participants were back at DIS before 3:35 pm.
