DIS was one of the 16 schools who participated in the Eight TASMUN Conference held last April 29 to 30, 2017. Over 400 delegates, and over 100 student officers/volunteers from India, Hong Kong, Singapore, China, and Taiwan attended the conference. The Taipei American School Model United Nations (TASMUN) is a junior level conference designed for aspiring delegates from 7th grade to 10th grade new to Model United Nations. It was first founded as Middle School Taiwan Model United Nations (MS TAIMUN) in 2009 as the junior level affiliate of the Taiwan Model United Nations (TAIMUN), which is a local conference that takes place annually at the American School in Taichung (AST).

Mr. Elliot prepared the students through their weekly meetings in MUN Club in DIS. He told them to do some readings, researching and writing about global issues. One of the first timer to join TASMUN conference said "I was quite nervous when I got there, because it felt like everyone else was so experienced, and I was that “new person”. But I knew that I needed to try my best, no matter how stressful it was."
The Secretaries General, Niralee Shah and Ryan Sun, welcomed the participants with rigorous debates and sublime topics that provided the most pristine experience, regardless of age, experience, or position.
Also, the conference raised awareness through lobbying and debating about the true global awareness by continuing with their Afghanistan Drive Initiative, fundraising for HELA, an organization in Afghanistan which works to spread Model United Nations to Afghan teenagers.
On the first session, the students read their opening speeches and resolutions. The debate took place during the second session. The students were given a chance to raise their point of interest (POI) questions.
On the second day, committee sessions took place. There were ten committee, namely: Commission on Disarmament and International Security (CDIS); Social and Humanitarian Council (SOCHUM); Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC); Security Council; Environmental Commission; Historical Crisis Committee; Human Rights Council; UN4MUN Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW); Special Political and Decolonization Committee (SPECPOL); Advisory Panel on APEC (APQAPEC).
The conference adjourned at 2pm, April 30, 2017.
